Community Environment Day May 5, 2018: With perfect weather and the tree leaves finally popping out, Community Environment Day (CED) was a huge success. In addition to picking up the City’s compost and a chance to recycle items in an environmentally responsible way, people enjoyed a BBQ, jointly hosted by the City and FoRRP, in and adjacent to our new kitchenette called Fred’s!
With heritage pork sausages generously donated by ClearWater Farms, veggie and regular hot dogs, and Roxton Roast, our custom-blended coffee, and lemonade, no one went away hungry!
We were happy to have Alana join us to tell people about the Farm produce delivery to Fred’s each week. If you want more info about how to get great farm produce, visit ClearWaterFarms.ca or call Alana at 705-242-9300. Thanks to Michelle of the College Street Promenade BIA for joining us and supplying delicious cookies and candies from local businesses Prairie Boy and The Candy Bar, along with prizes from other businesses along College St.!
Thanks to all our neighbours and friends who came out and made CED such a special event! Thanks to Tim, Scott, and Marco for BBQing, Rhea for supplying an amazing array of condiments, Zac for taking care of coffee and drinks in Fred’s. Thanks to Soren, Annika, Mason, Melana and John for the lemonade stand (and the $90 proceeds from the sale of lemonade!), and Bob for organizing the event along with the events committee (Tim, Rhea, Pat), MC-ing, and snapping photographs! Everyone pitched in to help clean up which was greatly appreciated!
Thanks to the donors of a griddle and rice machine and a two-slice toaster (we’d love to know your names to thank you personally!) and to Elysha Philips for her generous donation of a fridge for our kitchenette!
Thanks also to Jill for helping with overall organization and taking care of many last minute details! Special thanks to our Councilor Mike Layton, who along with his family joined us for the entire day, and to Brian Green and his park crew who do such an amazing job of keeping our parks in tiptop shape and opening the washrooms in time for this event!
Stayed tuned for upcoming summer events: a film night, a croquet tournament, and other surprise events.
See you in the park!
