Saturday April 25th was Community Environment Day in Fred Hamilton Park. Many people collected the free city-provided compost and disposed of their hazardous waste and other unwanted items in an environmentally friendly way, and donated to Goodwill.
The BBQ sponsored by Enbridge, the City, and FoRRP was a huge hit…at times there were long lineups for the sausages, meat and veggie burgers, and lemonade! Rhea did a super job supplying what we are sure was the best array of condiments ever seen at an environment day. Julie, Dylan, Leo, and Margaret did a great job serving all the BBQ goodies. Bob brought some pies at the end of the day and they quickly disappeared!
Jill staffed the FoRRP tent and signed up some new people for our adopt-a-tree program and sold the wonderful FoRRP calendars. Councillor Mike Layton and Trustee Ausma Malik pitched in and talked to many of the 200 or more people who visited the park. It was Ausma’s birthday so she had her own special cupcake with a candle and everyone sang Happy Birthday.
Thanks to the events committee Tim, Pat, Rhea, and Bob for all their hard work and planning. Special thanks to Josh and Aaron of Enbridge who cooked up all the sausages and burgers and to Enbridge generally for all their support of FoRRP events.
Look for future posts re surprise event in Fred Hamilton Park in July and our Block Party August 15…see you in the park!
