On Saturday August 23, FoRRP hosted the 3rd Annual Block Party and Garage Sale in Fred Hamilton Park.
Despite being an overcast day, it was a great success with a lively garage sale, the inauguration of our new BBQ serving up meat and vegetarian options , music, and a raffle.
The music concert by the band Culture Reject was exciting and entertaining and enjoyed by everyone, Tim (playing guitar and banjo) and his boys shared their music talents, and Bob sang one of his ironic political songs. The hula hoop contest, a new addition this year, was great fun and Tim’s son Leo proved a veritable wizard with the hoop.
Thanks to the Events Committee of Rhea (raffle and donations, including the BBQ), Pat (lemonade and prizes), Tim (concert and music) and Bob (MC). Thanks to Jill for all her support and taking care of the FoRRP tent. Thanks also to everyone who made the bake sale a super success! Thanks to Julie, Dylan, and Leo for serving up all the wonderful BBQ options. Thanks to Brian Green and the park staff for making sure we had ample benches, picnic tables, and for keeping our park clean.
Thanks to Jennifer and Dana (who wrote and lead implementation with FoRRP and other local groups of the “Trinity Bellwoods Neighbourhood Urban Forest Management Plan) who provided urban forest and tree information and wonderful baked goods. Special thanks to John (Main Attraction Entertainment) who had been working all night but still got up early to set up the stage and sound system. What a trooper!
Thanks to our wonderful sponsors: Metro (Gift Card), Yam Chops (delicious veggie burgers and Italian sausages), The Candy Bar (hula hoop prizes), Tank Traders (propane), Pizzaville (gift certificate) and the Paintlounge (gift certificate). Special thanks to John Esteves at Downtown Lumber/Home Building Centre on Ossington for a very generous donation of a new BBQ, which will serve us well at future FoRRP events.
Look for our upcoming Halloween Party and Costume Contest at the end of October.
