Fred Hamilton Park Open House – January 21st, 2014

Fred Hamilton Park Open House

Tuesday, January 21 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm

College-Shaw Library – 766 College Street

Dear Neighbours,

Plans to improve the washroom building and pathways in Fred Hamilton Park continue to progress. Over the last few years the Friends of Roxton Road Parks (FoRRP) and my office have put our minds together to improve this park and I am excited to see these proposals taking shape.

New Accessible Path and New Gathering Space

The existing beaten path through the park will be paved to connect to the newly completed accessibility ramp and provide easier access through the park for all users. A simple plaza or meeting space will be created where these paths intersect in the middle of the park to encourage community gatherings and activities.

New Multi-Purpose Building

The washroom building is being transformed into a multi-purpose building, while maintaining washroom functions. One side of the existing building will be transformed into a food preparation kitchen while the other half will retain separate male and female washrooms. The building will also be outfitted with a new roof structure to create a meeting/picnic space and provide shelter from inclement weather.

FoRRP will share other ideas for the park including a prototype rain garden. FoRRP and I welcome your feedback on the proposed designs, and any suggestions to improve Fred Hamilton Park.Construction of these park improvements are scheduled to start and finish in 2014.

If you are unable to attend, but would like more information, or you would like to provide your thoughts, please contact Marco Bianchi in my office at mbianch@toronto.ca, or by phone at 416 392 4009. I look forward to seeing you on January 21.

Yours in community,
